A Testimony on Baptism

I grew up in a church that was not very gospel centered, was not mission minded, and did not encourage me to learn the Word. It also goes without saying that I was not baptized. When I started Downline last year, the first thing we looked at was the Great Commission. It really messed with me. It is not a choice; it is a command. However, I couldn’t get passed the baptism part. How could I go and make disciples of all nations and ignore the rest of that commandment of baptizing when I had not been baptized myself? This was something I took very serious.

Over the course of the past year, I have felt led to proclaim my faith publicly before my church family and to follow the example of Christ when he waded out into a river with a crazy hermit to be baptized. I truly wanted to acknowledge that through Christ I am dead to the life I once led and am a “new creation” by his grace. If this is something that the Lord has placed on your heart, I highly recommend listening to him.

Our next baptism will be May 22 at Colonial Middle School. If you have gone through Discovery and would like to participate, email August LeVangie at . If you would like to participate in our Discovery classes please email .
