My DL Men’s Summit experience last year was impactful, encouraging, and a sweet time of worship, learning, and fellowship! It left me with an understanding of how to better serve those around me, not just through the biblical picture of discipleship, but also through simply loving them. It was a reminder that the art of discipleship is not just teaching, but also fellowship. I was encouraged to see so many speakers who weren’t there because of their academic accolades, but because they related to men like me so well.
One speaker was faced with illness and realized how precious life is. His near-death experience unearthed a passionate, radical view on life. Another speaker, though he was twice the age of many men there, was one of the most real-to-life and funny men you will ever meet; he emphasized doing life with those that God has you paired up with. A third impactful presenter was an army ranger who recited the ranger creed. I can still remember the chill bumps produced by the sincerity, devotion, and camaraderie expressed in his voice as he was questioned about how to lead men.
The Summit was most beneficial because I experienced it with a friend. We exchanged ideas and discussed the highlights. I walked away with a passion for seeing hearts change, reminded of what the Lord can do through those who are faithful to sit, listen, and carry out what He has in store.
