East Outpost Update
- Aug 14, 2011
A few years ago our elder team made the decision to become multi-site. This means that instead of being one church in one location that adds more and more people (and then services), we wanted to extend the reach of our influence around the greater Memphis area by constantly spinning off new sites, or what we would call outposts. These outposts are not their own churches but are all considered to be under the Fellowship Memphis umbrella with the same teaching team, philosophy of ministry, and unified elder board.
We hope this multi-site strategy will allow us to better serve our city with smaller gatherings that encourage community, connection, and outreach. This opens the door for more missional opportunities and allows our budget to focus on people and mission rather than being dominated by bricks, square feet, and maintenance.
Our second outpost was launched in August of 2009 in Downtown Memphis. In December of last year, we shared with you the dream of our third outpost, we hope to launch out east in the next few months. The three main beachheads that we need in order to make this possible are leadership, facilities, and finances.
If you are interested in being a part of the core team and haven’t let us know, please email Carrie Brady at . We need people with skill sets and willing hearts to help out in the areas of children’s ministry, set-up, audio/visual, and hospitality. Please pray with us as we search for facilities, and if you have any connections in this area, let us know. Finally, as we begin the process of securing the start-up funds, we are appealing to our body at Colonial and Downtown to pay it forward and help us spread our DNA around the city.
Our leadership teams have met over the summer and decided that for the time being, one of our founding pastors, John Bryson, will be best suited to lead the charge to get the East Outpost going. JB is an entrepreneur at heart and loves starting new things. You can continue to pray with us that God will bring the right person to be the longer term outpost pastor.
For everyone interested in being a part, join us for a connection party Saturday evening August 27. We will host weekly gatherings for our core team beginning September 25. In October we hope to have a couple of events designed to engage the community and to share who we are and what we are doing. Lord willing, we will be able to launch with the first official service on our church anniversary, the first weekend in November. These are exciting days for Fellowship Memphis, and we’re filled with anticipation as we prayerfully start this next outpost.
