Finding our place here at Fellowship Memphis actually began a little over five years ago with me finding my wife Amia. We were both attending another church at the time, and God blessed me to be able to find the perfect woman for me right where I was. We were very active in the church, working with the youth, singing on the praise team, even teaching an occasional Wednesday night Bible class. After about three years, there was an unfortunate doctrinal change at the church. After much prayer and many conversations with leadership, we made the heartbreaking decision to find another church to attend.
While tossing around ideas of churches to visit, a family friend and Amia’s former coworker at the time was attending Fellowship, and suggested we visit. Her description of Fellowship intrigued us, so we began to listen to the radio broadcast. We really enjoyed Bryan’s teaching style and found the teaching itself to be biblically solid, so we decided to visit. We found Fellowship to be just what we were looking for, not too big, not too small, multi-racial, with a solid leadership and teaching team. Finding our place also meant finding something to “put our hands to.” Family friend and former resident Mondonico Williams took care of that by immediately putting us on the communion set-up team. The great part about that was getting involved allowed us to meet some great people and begin to develop some friendships. Even our fifteen year old son Josh enjoyed it, so we knew we were on to something. A little over a year ago we made it official and joined Fellowship.
Finding our place now means being a part of a fantastic community group lead by Hassan and Tiffany Saleem, full of people that we truly love and care about. One of the great things about Fellowship are the numerous opportunities to serve, not only in the church, in the city in general. Finding our place now means struggling with daily life commitments “bumping heads” with wanting to be more involved. Finding our place now means looking forward to being a part of the east location when it begins. Finding our place now means trying to being open to whatever doors the Lord opens or closes and knowing the difference.
