We followed his footsteps closely as we climbed up the hill, deeply corroded from the after affects of a civil war and frequent heavy rains. Eyes were fixed upon us to the left and the right as if peering into our souls. The children, barely clothed, were running around laughing and playing, seemingly without a care in the world. We trudged on as we came to a “bridge” made of a sheet of rusted metal, a “faith walk” to say the least. Finally, we arrived at Albert’s home. He led us straight to the back door and out onto the balcony. My breath was taken as I stepped through and my eyes were taken captive to the most beautiful picture. The first layer in my view was homes stacked nearly on top of one another, a few feet a part at most. Beyond that, the healthiest green trees and plants as if God, himself, took a pail and watered them daily. The last layer was the magnificent waters, worthy to restore the soul on sight.
I was standing there with my new friend, Magdeline, and the Lord urged me to ask her about Him. I hesitated because I wanted to just “be” in that moment, but eventually asked her anyway. Prior to my arrival in Sierra Leone, the Lord was re-kindling my passion to consistently pray for the nations, I prayed that God would meet them in dreams and visions. I had prayed this for years. I recalled a question presented in Downline, “If God answered all of your prayers in the past six months, how much of the world would be changed?”
Magdeline began telling me of her upbringing in the church. However, it was one night as she fell asleep, Jesus came to her in a dream, holding a big Bible, and she received it from him, receiving him as hers. My stomach sank. My heart started pounding, and as soon as I caught my breath, I said “Magdeline! This is what I pray for you! This is what I pray for Africa! I pray that God would meet you this way, and you just told me he did!” I was rocked! I could have prayed this for the rest of my life without ever seeing the fruit, but God graciously showed me in the most powerful way. Count it a privilege, dear saints, to come along side the Lord’s redeeming work, through your prayers, to the ends of the earth!
