While speaking or singing praise to the Lord corporately or by myself at home, I often struggle to stay focused on the One I am worshiping which I generally accredit to my easily distracted personality. Although, thankfully from the guidance of close friends, mentors, and the Holy Spirit through the Word, I’ve been given a better perspective when going to His house of worship, wherever that may be.
I’m generally not good with my own words when speaking publicly… or privately, so I think as Christians we have a Great Advantage when some of the most beautifully orchestrated prose are already written down for us in His Word to …e’hem… “steal” in order to make them our own and then give right back to the Lord. One of my mentors saw how sidetracked I could be and greatly encouraged me to turn off the noise, the static, the worry, the anger, the fear, and start pouring in Truth.
Like most people, I gravitate to the Psalms when getting my praise on and drinking in some Truth. This has always laid the foundation for me to “be still...” and know that He is God and I am not; to submit to His authority as His Spirit leads me in His Word. At this time, the Lord has opened my eyes more to the fact that He is my Helper; Jehovah Ezer. Knowing that He will help this distracted little girl to love Him through worship, I have so much more hope when I learn to accept His love as I read His Word.
